The Ashton – Bristol review

On the evenings when me and Dan don't want to cook and just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bristol's city centre, we book ourselves in for dinner at The Ashton – one of my favourite country pubs oozing rural charm.

One of our go-to meals is the slow-cooked pork belly with seared scallops, crackling, black pudding, mashed potato, green beans, and apple ketchup – yum! It's a beautiful dish full of flavour and one i'd always recommend.
Having said that, I thought I'd go for something different, something I'd never tried at The Ashton before. Lobster roll!
I absolutely love lobster rolls so couldn't wait to tuck in.

Sadly the roll was lacking quite a bit of lobster, but priced at £13.50 I should of guessed it wasn't going to be extravagant. Still, I must give credit the brioche roll and lobster were very lovely.
Next, dessert! Dan went for the chocolate brownie and I chose the strawberry eton mess. Mine was absolutely lovely, with blackcurrant meringue and lemon verbena syrup - a great twist to a traditional classic.
I love how it had beautiful purple and blue colours running through the meringue.
We had a really nice night catching up over great food – worth a trip if you live nearby.

Do you have a favourite restaurant?
I'd love to add it to my must-visit list.
