When it comes to BBQ meat, Grillstock is a key contender for Bristol city. Now let me be your wingman and talk you through the smokehouse... (couldn't resist getting one pun in there!)
Grillstock's menu covers everything you'd expect from a southern american inspired BBQ eatery; from pulled pork, beef brisket and ribs, to chilli cheese fries and mac and cheese – I'm afraid nothing for veggies, so only meat eaters allowed.
We went for their BBQ share platter. Although it's £40 for two people, the value for money is actually pretty good. Look at everything you get!
Everything seems to taste great and I love how the meals come out on trays! Plus, they offer a nice variety of sauces to accompany your meat.
If you're a real foodie, you can test your appetite with their £40 'Grand Champion' meat feast. You get pulled pork, sliced brisket, half a chicken, full rack of babyback ribs and texas smoked sausage. As well as mac ‘n’ cheese, chilli cheese fries, house pickles and slaw – if you eat all that within an hour (on your own), you win a champion's tee, local fame and a bottle of BBQ sauce.
I won't be trying that challenge anytime soon as we struggled to eat all this between the two of us! Me in an ultimate food coma...
If you can't get a seat, as the restaurant is pretty small and only seats a handful of people on a communal table, don't forget they have a stall in St. Nicks market. So make sure to swing downtown to get your meat fix – but be warned their menu here is very limited!
Have you read my Spitfire review? Another great BBQ joint to try out if you're visiting Bristol.
Or if you know of any good BBQ joints I want to hear about them! Feel free to leave links in the comments below.
