A night at The Ox, Bristol

What better way to spoil your partner on their birthday than filling them to the brim with good wine and even better steak? Exactly, nothing!

So, on Dan's birthday we headed straight to Bristol's hidden gem The Ox...

If you follow me on Twitter you may have seen my hidden cocktail quest on Time Out Bristol's blog. I mention The Ox in that post too because I really can't get enough of the place – and neither will you after these mouth-drooling snaps!

Before I take you on this meaty voyage (apologies veggies), I must first say that the decor within The Ox although very beautiful in a prohibition 1920s kind of way, the lighting is very dim so I do apologise for the quality of these images but words just wouldn't do the night justice.

We didn't get starters, just went straight in for the whole hog – quite literally! We decided to order a big bottle of vino (red of course) and a sharing board with a whole rib of beef – it was 30 ounces! The board was accompanied by triple cooked chips, leeks and greens and a gorgeous béarnaise sauce.

Look at that meat – so rare and perfect!

Next stop was dessert, and boy oh boy did we have something special. Described on the menu as a salted caramel and banana choc ice, I wasn't sure. Salted caramel and banana – yes! Choc ice –  not the most exciting...

Although very small in size (slightly longer than your middle finger), it didn't lack flavour! It was absolutely delicious but I was left wanting about ten more.

After a shed load of food and a bottle of red we were ready to get our PJs on and collapse in front of the telly.

We called for the bill and got given this mysterious tin with the bill and sweeties in – I love a bit of novelty!

Not visiting the joint really would be a missed steak
it was absolutely meatilicious
Okay, I'll stop now!
